Every winter, millions of visitors flock to the winter wonderland of Mount Rainier to experience the magic of the mountain. But the same snow that brings joy also brings whiteouts, hidden hazards, and freezing conditions.
The Mt. Rainier Nordic Patrol is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to ensuring every visitor returns home safely. From marking miles of winter trails to providing critical safety education and assisting in emergency rescues, we work alongside the National Park Service to protect those who play in the park.
Advanced Training Provider: We provide our patrol and park volunteers with education in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and NSP Avalanche Courses. Your donation helps pay for instructor training and class logistics.
Essential Field Gear: While our volunteers provide the labor, your donation provide the tools. We keep every patroller’s pack stocked with specialized wilderness medical kits, trauma supplies, and the high-visibility trail markers that serve as a literal lifeline for visitors caught in Paradise’s notorious whiteouts.
Operations: Your donation covers the "invisible" costs that make our work possible: volunteer insurance, specialized patrol uniforms for extreme weather, and the logistical coordination required to maintain a daily safety presence on the mountain.
